Guest Post-Add Flair to Your Work Outfits

This guest post was contributed by Sara from Star Costumes after reading my article about being in a Fashion Depression and thought that adding a little flair to your office outfits can help break the corporate monotony. THANK YOU SARA.

Dealing with a conservative office environment? It can be tough when you want to spice up your outfits but are constrained by the oh-so-boring black pumps and senator cardigans that everyone else at your workplace is sporting. Never fear, though . . . it is possible to add some flair to your everyday outfits and still keep them work-appropriate.

Some of these items might be a little too flashy for the stiffest offices, but you know your work environment best, so don't be afraid to toe the line and see what you can get away with in the name of fashion!

Accessories are prime pieces of flair because they can add personality to an outfit without completely taking it over. Plus, they're rarely included in a manual's dress code, so you can use that to back yourself up if you happen to get busted.

Try a showpiece ring like this one (Pave Movable Turtle Ring, $24, Urban Outfitters):

Or throw on a fabulous scarf that's rich with color and goes with anything (Smocked Rainbow Scarf, $8.80, Forever 21):

Hair is also a natural place to put some flair. If your office allows hats, try wearing a chic fedora or a 1920s-style headpiece with an elegant flower or a bit of lace. If you don't want something taking up your whole head, try a unique headband (Wide Feather Headband, $5.80, Forever 21

Finally, don't neglect your lower half! If it's chilly at your workplace or you feel uncomfortable showing a lot of leg when you wear a skirt, tone it down while spicing it up with a really interesting pair of tights, like these two from ModCloth (Nocturnal Tights, $31.99, and Rad to the Herringbone Tights, $34.99):

So remember: no matter how conservative your office is, you can strive to stand out at least a little bit. Who knows? You might even get a few compliments and shake things up enough to inspire a mini fashion trend!

Trendspotting:Boyfriend Jeans Under $25

Boyfriend Jeans are definitely a spring trend that will be around for a while. I am a true lover of skinny jeans but the relaxed yet feminine fit of these jeans are a "girl's best friend". We are not just raiding our significant others closet for blazers and white collared shirts but now we can were their jeans. WWWHHOOO!!! (With the voice of Vicky from the Housewives of Orange County).

Rolling up the bottom of your jeans and pairing them with your favorite footwear is a great way to keep this trend fun and girly.

Here are some my favorite examples of this trend "done right" courtesy of Chictopia.
I have selected some affordable style of boyfriend jeans under $25.

Best and Worst Dressed of Oscars 2010

Best and Worst Dressed of Oscars 2010

gabourey sidibe oscars 2010

Gorgeous!!! What more can you say? Perfect overall look.

meryl streep oscars 2010

Classy and Age appropriate. I would even wear this.
Take up the length of the dress and we have a deal.

nicole richie oscars 2010

LOVED!!! Great dress choice, makeup and hair were impeccable.
I want to be her. :)

Diane Kruger oscars 2010

Mrs. Kruger is one of my favorite red carpet fashionistas.
She always knows what, wear, and how to look astounding at all times.

Sandra Bullock oscars 2010

She looked like a Oscars. You cannot get anymore polished and perfect as this.

Kate Winslet oscars 2010

Was she attending a wedding reception or the Oscars?
With a body like that, what were you thinking?
There is nothing exciting about the structure of the dress,
the color, or anything for that matter.

Cameron Diaz oscars 2010

This dress choice was one of the WORST of the night.
Her body structure is not made for a dress like that.
She does not look comfortable or confident and
it was just a "no go" for me all the way around.

carey mulligan oscars 2010
Why? I know with shorter you should wear something dramatic around the face to draw attention, but come on this is just too much.

She is a young beautiful girl they should start dressing her like one.

Sarah Jessica Parker oscars 2010

I love SJP but this dress reminded me of the something that
she has already worn before. And furthermore, it was not flattering
for her body type and the hair was a train wreck.

Mariah Carey oscars 2010

Mariah trying to show off your thong pantyline is not very becoming.
Please take a step back from trying to be sexy and think
your look all the way through.

HELP I AM IN A FASHION DEPRESSION

fashion dpression,depression

Let me just start by saying that I am a little tired. I work at a Insurance Company were the dress code is not "strictly enforced" but we still are not able to wear what you would like. I am sitting here thinking "Wow. Breck you look horrible". I have really let myself go. My appearance is not what a "Affordable Fashionista Blogger" should look like. I am not sure where the train got off the tracks but it has been off for at least a year. I get up just in enough time to get ready, iron something really quick out of the closet and make it work. Frankly I am so tired of this routine, I could just scream. I am in "Fashion Depression" and I need some medicine STAT.

I have not been keeping up my appearance like I know I should. The same recycled outfits are covering my body week to week. Does anyone have this same depression as I? I give advice for Affordable Fashion and Style, then dress like I would need to be on "What NOT TO WEAR".

Enough is Enough I am taking back my style and appearance. I want to look a certain way, I know how but I am not investing enough in myself to make this happen. So I am taking a stand to against "Fashion Depression" once and for all. From this day forward I will like and feel like I want.

Here are my steps to make this action a reality:

1. Clean my closet- If I have not worn it in the past 6-8 months, it is time to say Goodbye.

2. Reselling Items- I want new clothes and what better way to get them is by getting some type of income for them.

3. Buy Carefully- A new season is approaching with new trends and goodness it time to start spring shopping again. But this year and from now on I am going to shop more carefully. Not by impulse but by thinking about the purchase and will I really wear or use the product that I am purchasing.

4. Respect Me- Your overall presence and presentation is a reflection of one's self. I do not want to look or feel this way anymore. I am going to Respect myself by taking the time necessary to make myself look and feel the way I truly want.

Is anyone with me? Share your comments and thoughts? Are you dealing with this too or have you ever dealt with this before?

Would you be interested in hearing about my progress?

SAG AWARDS BEST DRESSED

Thank you!!!! I think everyone got the memo. Because the ladies of the SAG Awards look phenomenal and stunning. I was not disappointed this time around. The ladies of the night made a great recovery from the Golden Globes. It looked like everyone was truley the "Belle of the Ball". I believe that a overall winner is comfort and confidence. You should always, and I mean ALWAYS feel a sense of comfort in what you are wearing and then your confidence will shine through.

Since they did so well, I am not going to have a Worst Dressed category this time. I know they deserved it.

Frugal Tip Monday-2010 Goals

Hello out there if you haven't heard it's 2010. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! And now we all scramble to make these "resolutions" that we never end up keeping. We start the year with great momentum and slowing die down with time.

So I don't want to call anything a "resolution" let's call them GOALS. Have you had anything that has been on the "to do-list" for the past five months, now it's time to take it off the shelf. Start taking action today, don't let it linger another five months.

Here are some of my "GOALS" that I have for Fashion Without Guilt and personally.

1. FWG-I am going to become more consistent on my post. I work a full time job in Insurance and trying to come up with good content to write on a daily can get difficult but I owe it to all of you to show my true passion and dedication for Fashion Without Guilt.

2. FWG-I want to show you a little of who I am too. I will soon be posting audio clips. Just to let you all know what I am thinking and get your feedback.

3. FWG-In the coming months I would like to give Fashion Without Guilt a facelift. The look and features will be completely different. That is in the works.

4. Personally-I am making a rule for myself. I am only going to be clothing from the money I accrue from my previous purchase. I am doing a Winter Cleaning and getting rid of everything that I absolutely know that I am not going to use anymore and SELL IT. I have tags on this that I haven't worn or do not plan on wearing again. I will be posting some of my pieces from my closet so stay tuned.

So now that I have shared with you some GOALS for the NEW YEAR, what are some things you would like to accomplish this year? It can be any type of GOAL feel free to say Anything.

A Re-Intoduction of Fashion Without Guilt

Hello Hi Graphic #112Hello Ladies and Gents,
I have been doing some "real blog soul searching". I know that sounds funny but I have been doing alot of thinking. I truly want to get to know my readers and intern you get to know me. I have been dealing with alot of things within myself, about my blog. I am trying to keep great content but need to take it to the next level. I feel somewhat stuck.

As I stated in my one of my recent post, Fashion Without Guilt wants to hear from you that I would start posting some things going on in my life some fashion and some personal.

I first wanted to introduce myself to my readers. My name is Breck. I love the color BLACK, I am EXTREMELY FRUGAL, and LOVE FASHION and FINANCE.

Here is some background on how Fashion Without Guilt came to be. First off, I have a absolute obsession with finding the best deals and I mean the best. I will not buy a item of clothing over $10 unless I deem it truly necessary. I know I'M CHEAP. But from my love of fashion and frugality grew the workings of FASHION WITHOUT GUILT.

One day, while at work I wanted to help others that were like me. They love fashion but at reasonable prices. So I decided to create a blog that shared that passion.

So from now on I plan on sharing some of me with you. I hope you appreciate this and can't wait to hear from you.

Please feel free to comment and tell me about you and what you think?

Frugal Tip Monday-Ways to Make and Save Extra Money for The Holiday Shopping Season

ebay logo
The Holidays are here again. (I know it seems like you were here planning for Christmas just a few months ago) Spending lots of money is on the front of everyone's mind right now. But Fashion Without Guilt is here with a few ideas to help you save or earn a few extra bucks to contribute to your holiday shopping.

Reselling Items around your home-In a previous Frugal Tip Monday I have written about Taking A Closet Inventory for Fall. Going through and getting rid of things that you know are not going to be of use to you anymore, Get Rid of It. As they say "what is one man's trash, is another man's treasure" so it's time to get selling. Reselling your own items is a great way to earn some extra cash. An article written by Ramit Sethi of Iwillteachyoutoberich instructs you on some key areas to make your ebay listing more valuable.

I personally am going to take my own advice. I am going through my closet and reselling alot of items that I know I have no use for. Wish me Luck, I will let everyone know the name of my ebay store very soon. Everything will be affordable.

Another online avenue for earning extra revenue is listing your items on Craigslist. This is a free site to list your items. ***Unlike Ebay where you ship the items to your customers, Craigslist is somewhat more based on a local scale. So if you are going to meet a potential buyer please be safe and make smart decisions before meeting a random person from the Internet.***

Please share some of your ideas on saving for this Shopping Season?

Frugal Tip Monday-Shopping for Christmas Early

I know. I know. Christmas? Why are you even talking about that yet. In reality it is already November. Shopping now is one way to eliminate overspending and the last minute rush. Other than some deals that surface on Black Friday prices for the most part stay the same. Unless they are handing out Free Wiis in front of Wal-Mart you will expect to pay around the price that is listed now.

Here are some tips to make your Christmas shopping this year a little less stressful:

  • Make a List-making a list is a great way to see on paper what you try to spend. When composing this list put price points beside each item and total them. This will give you a rough estimate of how much you are looking to spend this season.

  • Check for deals: Online/Papers-Scouting out deals are a great way to save. Comparison shopping is a great way to exact the best deal for your buck.

  • Budget-Having a set number in place can eliminate the urge to indulge. Paying cash only will really set a visual of what is left to spend. So please make sure you have a number that you will not exceed

Those are just some things that I have found useful for this upcoming shopping season.

Are you going to shop early this year?

Trendspotting-Circle/Infinity Scarf

This is a in genius idea. Whoever came up with the creation is smart beyond their years. Wearing a scarf "to me" is a difficult task. Trying to position and wrap the scarf always leaves me in a state of bondage. (and it's nowhere near sexy)

So again "for me" it eliminates all the construction of scarf drapery. It is very simple, if you would like the scarf to hang low just place around your neck. If you would like volume and complexity just "Wrap and Go". In the picture there are some examples of how it can be transformed into more than just a scarf.

I would personally recommend everyone at least purchase one for the fall season. Stick with a neutral color so that it will be able to transcend over your wardrobe.

Inspiration- Dolman Sleeve Styles for Under $25

The Dolman sleeve is created with a loose drpaery that is draped under the pit of the arm. It was a "batwing" look to the sleeves. This style is a great item for any women's wardrobe, it leads the eye away from the body. The dolman is great for comfort and figure friendly.

Trendspotting- MensWear Chic Under $30

Menswear Chic is such the trend for this fall season. I am in favor of the semi-masculine ensemble. A play on gender that is male is always a turn on for me. Ladies we are the 21st century and now we are starting to dress like it. OK enough, on my fempower I just absolutely love the comfort and sexy appeal associated with menswear. A nice trouser or blazer will always create polished look. So ladies for this fall break out those blazers and buy a couple pairs of fitted trousers because personally this is a timeless look that will never go away just reincarnate.

Below are some great affordable options for the season.
