Frugal Tip Monday-It's Not What you Make but What You Spend?

Finance is another true love of mine. I came across a great article on Iwillteachyoutoberich.com regarding Conscious Spending. It definetly hit home with everything that I have been reading about lately. It's not what you make but what you spend is the real key to financial success.

According to Ramit Sethi, unless you establish a financial mindset at a very young age it is hard to break the I-want-it-now habit. He gives a scenario of three friends, their salaries and how they spend.

Friend 1: The Shoe Lover-She spends at least $5000 a year on footwear. Stating that he does not truley believe in the purchase but her six figure salary and various investment makes her authorized for a splurge or two.

Friend 2: The Partier- This friend can roughly spends close to $21,000 a year on entertainment. Mind you that is a bit excessive but again with a healthy salary and a nice standing in his 401K and real estate invesments he is sitting pretty.

And last but not least, Friend 3: The Subscription Nut- He has every subscription from Netflix, local gyms, and online music accounts. He does not disclose his salary but does mention that he does have a budget and plan for his money every month. That means its not more about the spending than it is managing the money.Money should always have a name and a plan.

Iwillteachyoutoberich.com is a great resource for help and direction to a secure financial future. I just ordered the book yesterday, and I hope it lives up to everything that I hope for. I will write a review and let you know if it is worth the read.

Frugal Tip Monday-Tips for Dining on a Budget

Dining Out is America's past time, at least I know it's mine. Saving is key nowadays, so cutting back is key. By making some minor adjustments you will still be able to enjoy dining out while still watching the bank. According to FeedThePig here are some great tips on Dining on A Budget.

  • Avoid Appetizers; or, if out with friends, consider splitting one.

  • Eat dessert at home or share it with a friend to cut the cost.

  • Eat a snack before going out to dinner. You'll spend less if you aren't starving.

  • Drink water instead of other pricey beverages.

  • Use coupons for restaurants.

  • If you want to go out with a friend for a meal, try lunch instead of dinner - it's almost always cheaper.

  • If you're out and order a large meal, cut it in half before you start eating and take the other portion home. You'll have dinner for another night or lunch the next day.

  • If you have kids, find places that have kids-eat-free nights. This can quickly add up to big savings.

Fashion Tip Monday 7-Cheap is the New Black

Shopping affordably is key in this uncertain economy. Being able to shop has become more of a chore than it is leisure. "Cheap being the New Black" is a great new approach to still look fabulous without paying for it, LITERALLY.

Here are some tips for shopping "Cheap and Chic".

      1. Shop on Sale- Taking a assessment of the sale rack can always make for a better shopping experience. Around this time of year, most items are off season, but we are very close to summer so stores are soon trying to get rid of spring inventory to make way for their summer shipments.

      2. Buy a size Bigger and Alter- Shopping on the sale rack can be such a pain. You will always have this dilemma, you see something that is extremely affordable but just not your size. If the item is something that needs just slight altering and the price is too good to pass up, Buy and make Alterations. Let's say the item is under $5 and to make the needed alterations are no more than $10. You will be totalling around $15 for a great item of clothing.

      3. Buy Clothing in Off Season- Buying clothing in off season can add up to great savings in the long run. Purchasing items that are not currently in season are always guaranteed to be marked down close to 50% or more. Do not purchase trendy pieces, buy this time next year it will be "so last season". Classic and traditional items are the way to go for buying in off season.
